(Rossland, BC) The first LGBTQ2+ pride event of 2020 will be held at RED Mountain Resort from January 2 to 5, 2020 in Rossland, BC. Peak Pride kicks off the new decade with plenty of winter sport, food and drink, colour, dancing, and drag queens to go around. The colourful celebration is the first of its kind for RED Mountain Resort, and will be the first pride event in the world for the 2020s.

Presented by Rebellious Unicorns Production Company Inc. (RUPC), Peak Pride welcomes the LGBTQ2+ community and allies to join a series of events during this inclusive winter pride celebration.

“Peak Pride is an opportunity for the community to come together, celebrate pride and make lasting memories against the backdrop of beautiful, snow-covered mountains,” explains Dustyn Baulkham, Executive Producer of RUPC. “Peak Pride is the world’s largest and freshest collection of winter pride events, offering community-focused activities and entertainment in an array of inclusive spaces.”

The 4-day schedule of events begins with a screening of the documentary Alone In The Game on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at 7 pm in the Conference Centre at the RED Mountain Day Lodge (2nd Flr). Presented by viaSport, the 90-minute, incredibly impactful film enters into the “Old Boys' Club” of sport and examines this major dilemma at the professional, Olympic, collegiate, and high school levels. An après-film reception will be held in Rafters Lounge (3rd Flr).

On Friday, January 3, 2020, Peak Pride is pleased to present Rossland-based rock band Giant Water Bug at The Flying Steamshovel Gastropub (2003-2 Ave). Giant Water Bug plays down and dirty rock ‘n roll, with a healthy dose of blues, garage rock, and psychedelic influences. Their unique sound and energy brings new definition to the term Mountain Music.  Doors for this show open at 9 pm, with the show at 10 pm. Tickets for this event are $12 plus fees and taxes, and are available in advance online. This will be a 19+ event.

Saturday’s festivities will kick off with the
Mountain Pride Parade with reams of colourful costumes and flags making their way down the mountain slopes. Skiers and snowboarders of all ages are invited to meet at the bottom of the Red Chair Lift at 2:00 p.m. The route follows the Back Trail run and the Face of Red at 2:30 p.m. and winds up at the mountain base in front of the RED Day Lodge.

Saturday afternoon invites attendees to unwind after a day on the slopes with Après at Rafters Lounge. Rafters is also the place to be after 9:00 p.m. as wipeOUT gets underway with the help of Kelowna drag stars, Freida Whales and Sophonda Dick, while DJ Soulman will keep the party going. While there is no charge, wipeOUT is a 19+ event.

The final event of the weekend brings festival goers together for the I’m Never Drinking Again Breakfast Social on Sunday, January 5, 2020 at the Velvet Restaurant in The Josie Hotel. The Peak Pride Breakfast Feature offers a hearty breakfast, coffee, and mimosa all included for $28 (tax and gratuity not included).

“We are truly thrilled to be bringing Peak Pride to the Kootenays and are grateful to our partners at RED Mountain Resort, Tourism Rossland, The Josie, and to the whole town for welcoming Peak Pride with such enthusiasm,” continues Baulkham.
